WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Campbell (CA-48) issued the following statement today regarding the sentence commutations for U.S. Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean.

I am pleased that the sentences of Border Patrol Agents Ramos and Compean were commuted, I have monitored this situation closely and been a steadfast advocate of their immediate pardon and/or the commutation of their sentences.  Clearly President Bush issued this commutation with tremendous attention to detail and I believe he acted wisely."

Campbell went on to say, “This entire situation has taken an enormous toll on these men and their families, and I am happy to see them reunited, so they can continue on with their lives.”

Campbell is a member of the House Immigration Reform Caucus and has cosigned several letters in requesting further investigation, the immediate pardon,  or commutation of the sentences given to Agents Ramos and Compean, under the leadership of Congressman Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA).
