June 16, 2011 - Today, Rep. John Campbell (R-CA) offerend an amendment to save taxpayers $11 million by eliminating extraneous federal funding for the USDA Wildlife Services Livestock Protection Program in the FY2012 Agriculture Appropriations bill. Data reported by the USDA shows that less than 1% of livestock are killed by predators, yet the federal government hands over millions in taxpayer-subsidized wildlife extermination services to private agribusiness every year. Oftentimes, this extermination service kills indiscriminately, targeting non-predatory wildlife. Campbell's amendment simply would return $11 million to the taxpayer and allow livestock owners and property owners continue to protect their property with their own resources.
