Washington - At a Financial Services Committee hearing featuring testimony from Treasury Secretary Jack Lew, Rep. John Campbell (CA-45) questioned Secretary Lew about the Treasury Inspector General's report on improper targeting by the IRS. Campbell asked the Secretary if he agreed that it is important to know why targeting occurred and why he has not taken charge, as Secretary of the Treasury, of finding the evidence that reveals the extent of the misconduct at the IRS.
While the Treasury Secretary refused to directly answer the questions, Campbell concluded his questioning by making clear the critical duty the Treasury Secretary has to determine if political intervention of any kind prompted the gross misconduct by IRS officials.
